Leo XIV, may his reign be faithful, if not, may it be short.

With all of the philia I have in my heart, David you are a pagan and are therefore excused from this conversation.

The Pope has never held sway over the American West, nor has he shaped its spirit. In America, the Pope holds no real influence. This nation was built on Protestant values β yet today, we see a rise in Orthodoxy while Roman Catholicism continues to fade.
Jesus Christ was never elected, and neither were the Apostles. Their authority came from God, not from men. Catholicism may be fading, but it is Protestantism that stands at greater risk of spiritual decay.
Orthodoxy remains β unshaken and true.

Catholicism is fading? The Pope has no sway in America? What are you smoking? Orthodoxy has sway in Alaska and various ethnic enclaves of Greeks and Russians and has very little impact in American culture. Catholicism ESPECIALLY traditional Catholicism is growing. It is culturally impactfull, frequently appearing (both with respectful and distasteful depictions) in movies, TV, and internet meme culture. Orthodoxy? Not as much. I say this with Orthodox friends that you are dead wrong and look jealous and silly that your Patriarchs aren't given a sliver of the same interest.
But this proves what I have always said. Many Americans that become EO are such because they realize Protestantism is dead and shallow, they want sacraments and beauty but cannot bring themselves to shed their protestant brainwashing about the Pope and want to do their own thing.
I say this with philia and charity, you as well are excused from this conversation and as a neophyte to Orthodoxy should refrain from speaking on these matters until you've matured in your faith.

Everyone wants to give their hot take on the new Pope. Whether it's a return to form or he's Francis 2.0 or he's a centrist or he's not the real Pope. Timothy Gordon and Brian Holdsworth already have had a debate about him. This is absolutely ridiculous.
My brethren, he has only been Pope for a couple of days. Let his pontificate speak for itself in due time. Speak about him to others less and speak your well wishes and worries about him to God in prayer.

This is why I will occasionally conduct sweeps after Mass and have had more than a few old ladies go "Did you find what you dropped?" Because I do so thoroughly.

I didn't want to ignite squabbling, I simply wanted to encourage my Catholic brethren to take a step back and pray. I sympathize with the anxiety of my fellow traditionalists, but ultimately God is in control. Pray and discharge your duties of state.
